About Charles J. Morgan, M.D.:
Dr. Charles J. Morgan is President of Sawubona, Inc, a not-for-profit group, focused on the mental health and resiliency of youth in Bridgeport utilizing creative expression. He is the former Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry at Bridgeport Hospital for 20 years. He graduated Magna Cum Laude – B.S., from City College of the City University of New York in 1979 and received an M.D. from Cornell University Medical College in 1983. He did his internship at Greenwich Hospital and his residency at Yale University School of Medicine.
His professional honors and recognition include: Jonas Salk Award for Biochemistry Research, Sigma Xi – Associate Member; the William H. Johnson Memorial Lecture Award and nominated Top Doctor 2008 thru 2013, and most recently June 2021. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Dr. Morgan has co-authored numerous articles on addiction and made a number of presentations on AIDS and transcultural and spiritual issues in psychiatry. He is actively involved in AIDS Walk New York and personally participates.
Dr. Morgan worked with PRN Relief International to coordinate annual missions to Jamaica. In 2018, he was awarded the “No Land Too Far Award”, as one of Fairfield County’s Doctors of Distinction. Over the years, Dr. Morgan’s role has changed from providing direct care to include mentoring workshops and mental health assessment assistance to staff, along with mental health services through the child protective agency. Recently, focusing attention on the role of racism and intergenerational trauma in our communities.
